This past Sunday, we closed out yet another cycle of StoryAtlas, this time on the topic of, “Drunk & High: Creating a Hot Mess.” We had a remarkable group of actors and a fun (but deceptively difficult!) topic.
We honor two actors every month. One is chosen based on the quality of performance on the final night (EXCELLENCE IN PERFORMANCE AWARD). The other is based on our observation of the actor’s growth and insight into the topic over the entire four-week class (BREAKTHROUGH AWARD).
This month, our “Excellence in Performance Award” went to Leah Cevoli, for her hilarious yet all-too-human performance as lush Edina Monsoon in ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS. Ms. Cevoli’s unique friendship with Patsy Stone provided a great vehicle for Cevoli to explore comedy, while maintaining a sense of reality about her character.
Our “Breakthrough Award” went to Michael Coghlan for his performance as Julio in Y TU MAMA TAMBIEN. The scene opposite Hunter Gibson as Tenoch provided opportunities for Mr. Coghlan not only to explore the character’s drunken condition but also his guilt-racked conscience.
April honorees:
Excellence in Performance Award: Leah Cevoli for her work in ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS!
Breakthrough Award: Michael Coghlan for his work in Y TU MAMA TAMBIEN
