Product Description

In the second quarter of 2017, we’re delving into the mystery of the human psyche and how that’s channeled through the actor into effective tactics for characters to get what they want. Join us for the entire Summer series and save $100 or pick and choose the topics that interest you most.

The classes are taught by director Hunter Lee Hughes whose award-winning feature film debut Guys Reading Poems is winning rave reviews from film critics.

May/June – “Tactics.”

As actors, we’re often most comfortable exploring the emotions and traits of our characters. But it’s discovering and applying tactics that can sharpen our work and make others take notice.

In this five-week cycle, we’ll empower you with tactics that you may never have considered as options to win your scene objective. The first four weeks, we’ll develop the scene through rehearsals and exercises with a focus on developing a wide range of tactics within your scene. The fifth week, we’ll perform the scenes for an audience comprised of the entire StoryAtlas studio, including alumni, auditors and guests and every actor will receive an evaluation of their work.

Sunday, May 21st, 7 p.m. – 10 p.m.

We will take off Sunday, May 28th in honor of Memorial Day.

Sunday, June 4th, 7 p.m. – 10 p.m.

Sunday, June 11th, 7 p.m. – 10 p.m.

July – “From Dream to Scene: Channeling your Dreamworld into your Acting Work.”

As actors, we often reach back decades to draw upon psychological forces within us that powerfully align with characters we’re developing. And this can be extremely effective. But what about our dreams? Dreams are powerful clues in the mystery of our own psyche that may be integrated into creative work by identifying key images in your dreams, then creatively applying them to scene work.

Sunday, July 2nd, 7 p.m. – 10 p.m.

Sunday, July 9th, 7 p.m. – 10 p.m.

Sunday, July 16th, 7 p.m. – 10 p.m.

August – “Genre Study – Mystery/Thriller/Suspense.”

“Ladies with an attitude. Fellas that were in the mood….” Of course, we all known the origin of that lyric and, indeed, many of the characters populating neo-noir/mystery films seem to possess a star quality unique to this genre. Whether a femme fatale or tough guy, these larger than life characters can border on the iconic, so how do we create that as actors without becoming a stereotype or, worse, an unintentional parody of a “cool cat”?

In this four week cycle, you’ll receive a scene from a mystery/thriller/suspense piece. We’ll develop the scene through rehearsals and exercises aimed at supporting you within this fascinating genre. The fifth week, we’ll perform the scenes for an audience comprised of the entire StoryAtlas studio, including alumni, auditors and guests and every actor will receive an evaluation of their work. The class is taught by Hunter Lee Hughes, whose award-winning mindbender feature film Guys Reading Poems won raves from film critics.

Sunday, August 6th, 7 p.m. – 10 p.m.

Sunday, August 13th, 7 p.m. – 10 p.m.

Sunday, August 20th, 7 p.m. – 10 p.m.

Sunday, August 27th , 7 p.m. – 10 p.m.

We will take off Sunday, September 3rd in honor of Labor Day.
