NEW EXPANDED CYCLES! By request, I have extended to five-week cycles instead of four-week cycles starting this month.
Most people think only the undesirable parts of their psyche reside in the unseen shadow of the personality. This is not true. Think of the teenage boy who looks up to a professional athlete. Or the young woman who deeply admires the poise of Audrey Hepburn. Oftentimes, these youngsters are projecting out their own good qualities that they are not yet able to integrate into their personality. As actors, we do this as well in the form of hero worship and sometimes the heroes we admire hold the keys to untapped positive potential within us. It’s great to have heroes. But it’s even more important to learn what those folks can teach us about the gold within ourselves, that can then be used to help us create more three-dimensional characters.
In this five-week cycle, we’ll use the concept of hero worship – and exercises designed to teach us about our own hidden assets – to develop compelling and honorable characters. The first four weeks, we’ll develop the scene through rehearsals, exercises and by examining powerful dream figures. The final week we’ll perform the scenes for an audience comprised of the entire StoryAtlas studio including alumni, auditors and guests. The class will be taught by StoryAtlas founder Hunter Lee Hughes (writer-director, “Guys Reading Poems“).
