Over the years, we’ve noticed that actors often become the most self-conscious when they’re playing someone who’s drunk or high. Fears creep in. Am I coming across over the top? Am I not taking enough risks? How do I play drunk while not losing sight of the goals and aspirations of the character within the scene? Don’t worry. We’re here to help you create that hot mess. And increase your confidence whenever you have to play a lush or party girl in the future!
In this four week cycle, you’ll be assigned a scene where alcohol or drug use is an aspect of the character. We’ll develop the scenes over three weeks, through rehearsals and exercises meant to aid you when confronted with a substance-loving person. The fourth week, we’ll perform the scenes for an audience comprised of the entire StoryAtlas studio, including alumni, auditors and guests and every actor will receive an evaluation of their work. The class is taught by Hunter Lee Hughes (director, Guys Reading Poems).
