“So….I guess we’ve got to like…”
Nothing can be more awkward than creating chemistry with another actor, especially when you feel neutral (or worse) towards them in real life. And if an actor really turns you on, that can create issues too, because it can feel vulnerable to allow them and the entire set to observe your attraction (not to mention the extra territorial texts you might receive from you boyfriend or girlfriend). And yet, creating chemistry with other actors is a HUGE part of our job, as sexuality is a HUGE part of what makes us human. So how do you do it, step by step, in a way that’s respectful and considerate towards a scene partner?
In this four week cycle, you’ll be assigned a scene that requires you to create romantic or sexual chemistry with another actor. We’ll develop the scene over the first three weeks, through rehearsal and exercises to help you build your performance. The fourth week, we’ll perform the scenes for an audience comprised of the entire StoryAtlas studio, including alumni, auditors and guests and every actor will receive an evaluation of their work. The class is taught by Hunter Lee Hughes (director, Guys Reading Poems).
Prerequisite: All students must read and sign our StoryAtlas policy on sexual harassment before attending this workshop.
