This past Sunday, we closed out yet another cycle of StoryAtlas, this time on the topic of, “Creating Realistic Fear & Suspicion.” We had a remarkable group of actors and a terrifying topic.

We honor two actors every month. One is chosen by the panel of industry guests based on the quality of performance the final night (EXCELLENCE IN PERFORMANCE AWARD). The other is based on our observation of the actor’s growth and insight into the topic over the entire four-week class (BREAKTHROUGH AWARD).

Martin Matamoros

Martin Matamoros

This month, Martin Matamoros was chosen for the EXCELLENCE IN PERFORMANCE award for his portrayal of Victor Ziegler in EYES WIDE SHUT. Matamoros re-invented the character in a fascinating, fearless manner that captured the attention and votes of our industry panel. His compelling variance of tactics used to intimidate, seduce and charm Bill (Eduardo Torres) into submission of his viewpoint won over our guests.

Ronnie Kroell

Ronnie Kroell

Ronnie Kroell took on Norman Bates in an iconic scene from PSYCHO where he must confess to Marion Crane (Yuki Sagara) that, “We all go a little mad sometimes.” Early on in the month, Ronnie discovered Norman’s childlike wonder and charm, while developing the reservoir of contempt stirring underneath the surface. Ronnie had the confidence not only to build layers, but to let go of them, too.

Honorable mention for the evening goes to Marsha Morgan, who probably achieved the single most memorable moment of the night when she pulled out a gun in character as Rachel Cooper in NIGHT OF THE HUNTER. Great job, Marsha!
